PBS Documentary Based on Co-Owner Jane Fortune’s Book to be Shown
Join us in June and August for showings of 'Invisible Women'.
Co-owner Jane Fortune’s book Invisible Women: Forgotten Artists of Florence was the inspiration for a PBS documentary, Invisible Women, and was awarded an Emmy by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences - the TV equivalent to the Oscars!!!
Invisible Women premiered locally at Bella Fortuna North during the summer of 2013 and at the Odeon Theatre in Florence, Italy, in June 2013. We also showed it at the restaurant during the 2014 season. If you haven't been able to attend one of our showings you'll have eight - yes eight - opportunities to see it this year. We'll be showing Invisible Women each night from June 22-June 25 and from August 17-August 20. Please call us at 231-944-2400 or visit our reservations page. We'd love to reserve you a place for one of these events!
You can learn more about the documentary by checking out this video clip. We’re delighted to feature this video, which was produced by LMD Television in Florence, on our website. As Jane says, “I am over the moon” about the attention the documentary has brought to these wonderful works of art. It is being shown on 180 public broadcast stations in the United States.
Jane has worked long and hard to bring attention to the often forgotten and ignored women artists of Florence. She’s taken a leading role in researching women artists in Florence, by uncovering their works, which are stored away, unseen, in various museums throughout the city – sometimes for centuries – and raising funds for their restoration and exhibition.
Autographed copies of Jane's books are available for purchase at the restaurant, Bella Fortuna North.
